Our student-led approach ensures you can participate and contribute to your dynamic student life.
Whether you’re a semi-professional, social athlete, team player or individual competitor, Emeris Sports Club offers something for everyone. To participate, students must register with the Emeris Sports Club, which includes a wide variety of options.
The club comprises of four categories: National Sports, Campus Team Sports, Campus Individual Sports and Campus Lifestyle Sports. Offerings vary per campus depending on available facilities and league opportunities. All campus clubs are available to bona fide students of Emeris.
All National Sports Clubs are centres of excellence at Emeris and offer expert coaching, high-performance and social teams. Academic excellence is not ignored and the opportunity to receive individual attention and support from lecturers to balance your athletic and academic pursuits, ensuring you reach your full potential, is something we strive for. Most of the club’s first teams compete in top-tier local leagues and competitions, including the annual University Sport South Africa (USSA) Championships. These clubs are open to students, alumni and the public. Our National Sports Clubs include rugby, netball, softball, hockey, football, cricket, basketball, water polo & swimming and athletics.
Campus Team Sports can be social or competitive. Most teams compete in local action and social outdoor leagues, or students can enter their own teams into the internal Emeris leagues, which some campuses have. Our team sports offer a great way to meet other like-minded students in a fun environment.
Each campus offers individual sports that are part of our Sports Life initiative which focuses on outdoor experiences and activities such as golf, surfing, running etc. These clubs cater for beginners and experienced student-athletes, with limited equipment providing opportunities to learn a new skill or be able to compete at local events and competitions together with fellow students.
These clubs focus on social and lifestyle-focused sports, with clubs including chess, cheerleading, esports, hiking, table tennis and tennis.
