Each campus offers individual sports that are part of our Sports Life initiative which focuses on outdoor experiences and activities such as golf, canoeing, surf skiing, running, walking, triathlon, cycling and surfing. These clubs cater for beginners and experienced student-athletes, providing opportunities to learn a new skill or be able to compete at local events and competitions together with fellow students.

Golf

Golf is offered at a social and competitive level at all Emeris campuses around the country. Each club has relationships with local driving ranges or golf courses where the clubs practice or play a round of golf. The clubs are run by experienced Club Administrators who can assist beginners with the basics as well as support more advanced players and in some cases coaching is provided by golf professionals.

For the more competitive golfers, there is an opportunity to represent Emeris at the annual USSA Golf Championships, where the top 4 golfers from campuses around the country compete against other tertiary institutions.

Canoeing

Canoeing offered at the Cape Town campus, focuses mainly on flat water canoeing. The club has boats and life-jackets for students wanting to learn how to paddle. Canoeing provides a great opportunity to experience the outdoors in a unique way.

Running/Walking and Triathlon

Students regularly gather to take on local running and walking routes - from mountain trails and coastal paths to forest walks and city runs - discovering new parts of their communities while improving their physical and mental well-being. Triathlon is also a growing sport particular at our Nelson Mandela Bay campus, on the Iron-man door step, as students and staff compete as an individual or in teams.

Cycling

Cycling is offered at most campuses across the country, with some clubs catering to both mountain biking (MTB) and road cycling enthusiasts. Whether you're a seasoned cyclist or just getting started, the Cycling Club provides a supportive and exciting space for all fitness levels to ride, explore and grow.

Surfing

Surfing is available at most of our coastal campuses and boasts surfers that are among some of South Africa’s best. Most campuses also offer a ‘Learn to Surf’ programme, with surfboards being provided for those who don’t yet have their own. Experience student life with a breath-taking view of some of our country’s beautiful coastlines.
