The Emeris campus Information Centres are designed as vibrant hubs for learning, collaboration, and academic support. We offer a full set of
Information Resources and Services to support students and staff.

Our cutting-edge information technology infrastructure means that students also have access to virtual learning spaces, along with online databases that provide access to the resources of the broader IIE Information Centre and those of other higher education institutions across South Africa.

Your academic support hub

Information Centre opening hours vary between campuses, semesters and vacation periods, please check with your campus. The following provides a good guideline: 

  • Monday - Thursday 07:00 to 20:00
  • Friday 07:00 to 17:00
  • Saturday 08:00 to 13:00
  • Sunday Closed

  • Undergraduates: 3 items for 7 days, renewable twice.
  • Postgraduates: 8 items for 14 days, renewable twice.
  • Fines: R10 per day (open shelf) and R10 per hour (short loan), capped at R500.
  • Inter-campus Loans: Weekly transfers between Emeris campuses.
  • Inter-library Loans: Free access via Sabinet to materials from other South African institutions.
  • Reservation of books is free of charge and unlimited.
  • Lending privileges are suspended when a student refuses to pay a fine.
  • If an item has been lost or damaged, the replacement value will be payable to the Information Centre

  • Computer Bookings: PCs must be reserved at the circulation desk.
  • Wi-Fi & Internet: Free academic internet access, with wireless connectivity across campuses.
  • Printing & Photocopying: Paid via Snap Scan; scanning to email is free.
  • Online Catalogue (OPAC): Search for books and articles directly here.

  • Workshops cover:
    • Effective assignment research
    • Correct referencing (Harvard Anglia, IEEE, APA and Law Referencing Method)
    • Avoiding plagiarism (Turnitin is used)
    • Database training (EBSCO, Jutastat, HeinOnline, etc.)
  • Digital Citizenship: Training emphasises responsible, ethical, and secure use of technology.

  • Information Specialists: Available for queries, training, and one-on-one support
  • Book Recommendations: Staff can suggest acquisitions via an online form.
  • Help Desk: The circulation desk provides face-to-face assistance.

  • Campus Information Specialists provide orientation sessions.
  • These sessions cover how to use online databases effectively.
  • To arrange training, contact your campus Information Specialist directly.
