These clubs focus on social and lifestyle-focused sports, exploring the outdoors or engaging on campus during a Meridian Hour or after lecture night sessions.
Chess is played at a social at most of our campuses. Connecting fellow chess club members happens either on campus or online. As a student’s ability increases, we enter local competitions for students to gain match experience. Most campuses offer ‘Learn to Play’ chess, where the club provides a combination of peer-to-peer learning or in some cases external coaching clinics are offered to teach students the basics of the game.
Cheerleading is offered at a few of our campuses socially with the plan to develop more competitive clubs nationally. The cheerleading squad in KZN leads the way in their support of our Emeris Rugby Team in the Varsity Cup, but this sport is popular at most campuses, where they attend local league matches and events to cheer Emeris teams on.

As an Esports athlete, you’ll be eligible to represent your campus at the USSA Esports Tournament and Varsity Esports Tournaments, where the best student gamers from across the country battle it out.
Hiking is offered as recreational sport option at selected campuses, providing students with the chance to explore some of South Africa’s most beautiful trails and landscapes. Table Tennis is offered at several of our campuses, providing students with the opportunity to showcase their skills and enjoy friendly, social competition. It’s a fast-paced, engaging sport that appeals to players of all levels, whether you're playing for fun or aiming to compete. Regular internal matches and social tournaments allow players to stay active and build confidence on the table.
The Emeris Tennis Club is based at the Ruimsig Campus and is all about fostering a friendly and sociable environment with regular social fixtures that encourage camaraderie. The club is open to players of all levels, and we look forward to seeing our small community grow each year as we help you enhance your tennis skills through our clinics, internal leagues, tournamentsand doubles matches.
Squash is offered at the Westville-Durban Campus using the Westville Country Club facilities. The campus club is open to players of all levels and students enjoy social matches determining internal rankings creating healthy competition as well as opportunities for beginners to learn new skills.
