Biography

Dr Sharna-Lee Clarke is a legal academic based in Cape Town, South Africa, specialising in children’s rights, disability law and the broader field of international human rights law. Her academic background includes advanced legal studies with a focus on constitutional and international human rights law, particularly as these frameworks intersect with the protection and promotion of children’s rights in Africa. Her research explores issues such as the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, access to justice for minors, and the impact of socio-economic inequality on child well-being. Notable achievements include publications in leading peer-reviewed journals, contributions to policy submissions on child protection, and presentations at national and international conferences. Her current projects examine the evolving role of domestic courts in enforcing children’s socio-economic rights and the influence of regional human rights systems on South African jurisprudence. Her work aims to bridge doctrinal analysis with practical advocacy to advance a more equitable and rights-based approach to the rights of vulnerable and marginalised persons within the South African legal system.
