About this qualification

The IIE Bachelor of Arts in Law, available at Emeris, facilitates access to a broad range of specialized law-related careers in the media industry, in journalism, in criminology and in the communication sciences. This qualification also provides entry into a variety of post-graduate qualifications, including the IIE Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree. The IIE Bachelor of Arts in Law, therefore, allows access to a variety of career paths and vocations requiring essential theoretical and practical knowledge of the law, language, communication science, criminology and the media. The degree also provides a sound basis in the necessary skills and knowledge needed for further professional study and ongoing life-long career development.

Admission requirements

Minimum Admission Requirements:
  • National Senior Certificate (NSC): Bachelor’s Degree pass with 60% for English; OR
  • National Certificate (Vocational) [NC(V)]: Bachelor’s Degree pass with 60% for English; OR
  • Senior Certificate (SC): Endorsement pass, with 60% for English; OR
  • Senior Certificate (Amended) [SC(a)]: Bachelor pass with 60% for English.
  • For International Qualifications: An USAf Exemption Certificate with 60% or equivalent for English.
  • Alternatively, a cognate Higher Certificate OR cognate 240 credit Diploma OR an Advanced Certificate OR 360 credit Diploma or Degree may satisfy the minimum admission requirements to degree studies
  • If discipline not cognate at least 20% of credits must be academic literacy or numeracy related.

In the Faculty of Law, graduates of the IIE Bachelor of Arts in Law may be eligible to articulate into the IIE Bachelor of Laws (LLB).

The IIE Bachelor of Arts in Law degree is accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE) and is registered by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) as a 360-credit qualification on level 7 (SAQA ID: 105123)
