Emeris Sandton Honours Mandela Day At Ratang Bana

Some of the Emeris Sandton staff recently dedicated their 67 minutes for Mandela to painting the play area and interacting with the children of Ratang Bana in Alexandra. Non-perishable food, bean bags, and paint were also donated to the non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting and empowering vulnerable children, with its focus placed on orphaned children and children affected and infected by HIV and AIDS. It offers holistic support in terms of education, counselling, and sport.

The Emeris Sandton staff chose to support Ratang Bana because it serves a high need community in Alexandra, one of South Africa’s oldest and most densely populated townships. Many families there face poverty, unemployment, and housing challenges.

”Mandela Day reminds us that even small acts can make a big difference. Our team didn’t just paint walls - we added colour and joy to the children’s environment. We helped to put food on the table and demonstrated what love looks like in action,” said Anam Gwenxane (Student Wellness Specialist Emeris Sandton).

While Mandela Day provides a special opportunity to unite in service and give back to communities, Emeris is committed to making a difference that extends far beyond a single day. The initiative formed part of Emeris Cares, a student committee run by students for students which focuses on community outreach and volunteer projects. “Emeris Cares is about creating lasting change. Our community initiatives take place throughout the year as we work to uplift communities and positively impact lives. Our support extends beyond children's homes to include women in shelters, schools, old age homes, homeless communities, and other vulnerable groups. We are committed to partnering with communities where our contribution can make a meaningful difference” concluded Gwenxane.
