Emeris Ruimsig Restores Dorah's Ark Jungle Gym

Children at Dorah's Ark Children's Home can now enjoy a safe place to play after 12 Emeris Ruimsig Cares members and student volunteers restored the place of safety’s unused jungle gym as part of their Mandela Day outreach initiative on 17 July 2026. The initiative reflects Emeris' commitment to making a difference in the communities it serves through practical acts of service.

Dorah's Ark provides a safe and nurturing home for 50 children between the ages of one and 18 who are abused, vulnerable, abandoned and orphaned. Recognising the importance of play in every child's development, the Emeris Ruimsig team chose to focus on repairing the jungle gym. Farhana Kamal (Student Wellness Specialist Emeris Ruimsig) explained: “Being a part of initiatives like this is incredibly rewarding. Seeing the joy on the children's faces reminds us that even a simple act can make a meaningful difference in their lives.”

In addition to the repair project, Emeris Cares Ruimsig hosted a clothing drive on campus throughout the first semester, during which staff and students donated clothing at designated collection points. All the donated clothes were distributed to the children at Dorah's Ark. Emeris Cares ended the day at Dorah’s Ark with lunch they provided for all the children and the volunteers who assisted them.

While Mandela Day provides a special opportunity to unite in service and give back to communities, Emeris is committed to making a difference that extends far beyond a single day. “We undertake community projects at least twice a month. Whether it's supporting children's homes, schools, charities, or other community based organisations, our goal is to create lasting, positive change through practical acts of service and collaboration,” concluded Kamal.
