Biography

Dr Sheethal Liz Tom is a Senior Lecturer (Research) in the School of Computer Science and Head of Programme for the PhD in Information Technology at Emeris. She holds a PhD in Information Technology from the Central University of Technology (South Africa), and an MTech and BTech in Computer Science and Engineering from Amrita University and Toc H Institute of Science and Technology (India), respectively. Her academic and research career spans more than a decade across South Africa and India, integrating expertise in Human– Computer Interaction, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, ICT for Development, and Health Informatics.

Key projects include BehaveSec, a mobile behavioural biometric authentication system; Machine Learning Models for Fraud Detection in the Telecommunications Sector; and AI-driven e-health applications that enhance healthcare delivery. Her framework for the adoption of ICTs for visually impaired learners in higher education advances equitable access to digital learning. A recipient of Teaching and Learning Excellence Awards and Best Paper honours, Dr Tom supervises Master’s and PhD students and collaborates with public universities and international research organisations. She has presented and published internationally, reviews for Springer and IEEE journals and conferences, and serves as Secretary of IFIP TC13 WG 13.8.
