Biography

Richard has a Psychology background obtaining his Masters Degree in Counselling and Research Psychology from UCT in 1995. After many years of doing counselling work in various contexts, lecturing psychology and research subjects at tertiary institutions and involved in several research projects, he completed his PhD in Disability Studies in 2016 from Stellenbosch University. His post-doctoral experience (from 2016-2018) primarily involved looking at disabilities in different contexts. He was the Research Officer of a Research Unit at UCT from 2019-2025 before joining Emeris as a full-time lecturer in May 2025. He is currently working on a research and training project with the Sabrina Love Foundation looking at training and evaluating teacher assistants to become more effective and valuable in inclusive education contexts.
