Biography

Mariaan Avenant holds an Honours Bachelor of Education with specialisation in Psycho-Educational Support (Cum Laude), a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Cum Laude), and a BA in Health Sciences and Social Services with a focus on Psychological Counselling (Cum Laude), all obtained through the University of South Africa. Her academic background reflects a strong and ongoing commitment to inclusive education, learner support, assessment accommodations, and the integration of educational technology in teaching and learning. Her primary research interests focus on technology-enhanced learning, assessment accommodations for diverse learners, pre-service teacher experiences, and the relationship between inclusive pedagogy and digital tools. She has been selected to present her research at the SAARMSTE 2026 conference, and her paper is currently in the publication process. In her professional role, she lectures in the School of Education at Emeris and serves as the Educational Technologist for the Durban North Campus, where she provides training to lecturers in LMS utilisation and best teaching practices. She has contributed to curriculum development for the Coding and Robotics module in the Intermediate Phase and continues to support innovation, research, and inclusive digital teaching practices within higher education.
