Biography
Mandy Speechly is the national head of copywriting at Emeris - Vega and is a senior lecturer at the Cape Town campus. She has extensive industry experience as an advertising copywriter, online tutor, course designer, and curriculum developer. She has won over fifty tutor awards in various student advertising competitions. Mandy completed her Master’s in Media Studies from the University of Cape Town, specialising in writing for mobile media and the role of language in digital user engagement. She has published textbook chapters and articles on writing for digital media. Her current academic interest relates to creative education in the context of advertising, brand communication, design, and copywriting. She has particular expertise in creative processes and conceptual thinking, which underlines the theme of a conference presentation in June 2025. Her interest in creative education has also expanded to the teaching of these fields in the online context, where she recently presented a paper on the role of the tutor in humanising the virtual learning environment.
