Biography

Liechen holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Laws in Labour Law from North-West University and is currently pursuing her PhD at the University of Witwatersrand. Her academic career spans over a decade, combining practical legal experience as an attorney specializing in labour law with academic roles, and she currently serve as Head of Law at Emeris Sandton.

Liechen’s research interests focus on employment law, medical law, disability law, family law, and legal education. She has published on topics including contract cheating in higher education, digitalization in legal practice, and preparing practice-ready law students. her work has appeared in the South African Journal of Higher Education and various conference proceedings, and she has co-authored textbooks on criminal law. She has also supervise LLB research students and has been involved in curriculum development and quality assurance initiatives.

Her current research projects explore the intersection of labour law with infertility, neurodiversity in the South African workplace, and accommodating neurodiverse students in tertiary legal education—areas that reflect her interest in addressing contemporary challenges in employment law and legal pedagogy.
