Biography
I am a passionate academic and researcher within the fields of English Literature and Communication. I have lectured and developed course material and assessments in these fields for over 15 years and I am the co-author and editor of Mindcraft: The Theory and Practice of Persuasive Communication, published through Juta in 2023.
I am currently completing my PhD in English with Stellenbosch University. In this I am conducting a qualitative critical analysis of selected South African postapocalyptic and dystopian novels and short stories published within the last decade, drawing on queer, speculative, and ecocritical perspectives to explore the intersectionalities and representations in these texts. The aim of my study is to interrogate how the authors employ diction, form, genre, setting, temporality, characterisation, and overall narrative structure to problematise hetero- and homonormative conceptions of gender, identity, and sexuality within and against the sociohistorical and sociocultural contexts and contemporary ideological discourses present in South Africa.
