Biography
Fiona is a legal academic based in Durban, South Africa. Her academic background includes completing a LLM in Mercantile Law in 2017 at the University of Free State. She is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of the Witwatersrand in the field of Business Rescue and is on the practising roll of legal practitioners in South Africa.
She began her legal academic career at the Applied Law department of the Durban University of Technology in 2005. She started her career at the IIE Varsity College as a part-time lecturer in 2006. She began managing the Law programme nationally from 2007 and was appointed as the Head of School: Law at Emeris in 2015. She is currently employed as the Dean.
Fiona has presented at both national and international law conferences in the field of Insolvency Law, Business Rescue and Legal Education and has a keen interest in these areas. She is also currently supervising final year LLB students.
Her research explores issues such as dispute resolution in the management of financially distressed companies and investigating the key challenges posed to legal education.
Areas of teaching and research include Legal Education, Social Justice and Insolvency Law with a particular interest in business rescue.
