Biography
Akhona Nkwanyana is an HPCSA registered Research Psychologist currently registered as a part-time PhD candidate at the University of the Western Cape, with a Master's degree in Research Psychology. Her PhD research is interested in understanding the relationship between food insecurity, diet intake, and mental health among adolescents.
Her past research has focused on adolescent substance use/abuse/misuse, instrument validation and development. She has an extended interest in race relations, ethnic-socialisation, social cohesion, mental health and mental health services among other topics. She is currently a committee member as part of the psychology association of psychology (part of the decolonising psychology division).
When not doing her own research, she is a peer reviewer for journal articles for publishers such as Springer Nature. When not focused on research and supervision, she enjoys the outdoors and spending time with her friends, family, and working in her community.
