About this qualification

The IIE Postgraduate Diploma in Internal Auditing, available at Emeris, aims to deliver learners who will be able to render a professional internal auditing service as internal audit managers and or consultants to all types of organisations, including private companies, public companies, government and auditing or consultation firms.

The programme will equip learners with a well-rounded advanced knowledge of the professional practice of internal auditing as well as the competency to manage internal audit activities and perform internal audit assurance and consulting engagements.

Minimum Admission Requirements

  • An appropriate HEQSF Level 7 Bachelor’s degree. The qualification should at least include accounting and/or auditing modules to the third year level.
  • For International students - A SAQA Evaluation Certificate with NQF L7 equivalence in an appropriate field

Curriculum

  • INAE8411 – Internal Audit Essentials
    This module aims to analyse how internal auditing theories, principles, and practices are applied within different internal audit settings and advise on the interaction between internal audit and relevant stakeholders.
  • MIAA8411 – Managing the Internal Audit Activity
    This module aims to develop students’ skills in strategically planning, establishing, managing and maintaining the quality of internal auditing departments.
  • BCSA8412 – Business Communication Skills for Internal Auditors 
    The purpose of this module is for students to effectively apply the various communication theories and techniques, in the format of internal audit reports, presentations, interviews and various other forms of communication, in respect of the full scope of internal audit responsibilities to various organisational stakeholders.
  • IAAE8412 – Internal Audit Assurance Engagements 
    This module will equip students to apply internationally accepted professional practices and frameworks, as well as assurance engagement procedures and techniques when conducting internal audit assurance engagements. Students will also deepen their understanding of the various financial cycles and operational units within organizations.
  • RMRA8412 – Risk management and Risk-Based Internal Auditing 
    The purpose of this module is for students to develop a deeper understanding and applied knowledge of internal audit methodology and practices based on organizational risk management principles and processes.

Study further with our pathways

A benefit of this programme to graduates would be that they would be able to apply for exemptions from the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) for certain of the subjects, which would reduce the study period towards a professional qualification.

Accreditation

The IIE Postgraduate Diploma in Internal Auditing is accredited by the Higher Education Quality Council (HEQC) of the Council on Higher Education (CHE) and is registered by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) as a 120-credit qualification on level 8 (SAQA ID: 101704).

Career opportunities

Candidates completing the IIE Postgraduate Diploma in Internal Auditing will be able to fulfil capacities such as Chief Internal Auditor, Internal Audit Manager and Internal Audit Supervisors in the public and or private sector, either with in-house internal audit activities or as consultants.

Due to their qualifications and the diverse business knowledge and experience gained while working as internal auditors, such individuals often take on management positions in other organisational departments/divisions.
