The IIE Postgraduate Diploma in User Experience (UX) Design, available at Emeris, prepares individuals from different fields such as software development, design and digital marketing with the knowledge and skills to plan and design satisfying and meaningful user experiences.
The course covers the theoretical foundations, principles, processes, tools and methods of user experience design. You will learn to apply agile, collaborative and user-centered approaches to design intuitive interactions, easy-to-use interfaces and satisfying experiences. You will conduct user research, apply design thinking and explore new and emerging technologies to prototype and create products that strategically align functional product objectives with user needs. You also get the opportunity to build a UX Design portfolio using innovative design thinking approaches, different technologies and agile project management approaches. This qualification allows you to explore various career opportunities in the UX Design field.

Year 1 - Semester 1
Principles of Interaction Design
This module introduces the cognitive and psychological considerations of interaction design, principles of usability and the ethical and legal concerns related to accessible design.
User Experience Design
In this module you will practically apply the fundamental building blocks of user experience design and UX design processes, methods and tools to design meaningful and satisfying interactive experiences.
Year 1 - Semester 2
User Experience Research Methodology
In this module, you will engage with the processes, methods, and tools of UX research. This module develops your ability to gather, analyse, interpret, and evaluate data to understand user requirements and inform design outcomes that satisfy user needs and expectations.
User Experience and Technology
This module examines the dynamics between technology and User Experience and provides students with the contextual background to evaluate and explore the possibilities and appropriate use of various technologies to design meaningful User Experiences for South African, African, and global contexts.
Year 2 - Semester 1
User Experience Project Management
The module will unpack different project-management approaches and develop your ability to select and manage multi-disciplinary teams and UX design projects. You will learn how to engage with project-management aspects such as preparing and presenting project proposals, defining project-scopes and milestones and costing projects.
User Experience Design Project
Students will learn how to practically apply the knowledge, principles and skills gained form the completed modules to design and present a cohesive and consistent User Experience Design solution supported by sound interaction- and user centred design principles, accompanied by a smart project plan.
Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma graduates can progress into The IIE Postgraduate Diploma in User Experience Design should they wish to upskill or pursue career opportunities in the field of User Experience Design.
The successful completion of the IIE PGDip in UX Design enables you to progress into an appropriate Master’s qualification, subject to meeting the admission requirements.
The IIE Postgraduate Diploma in User Experience Design is accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE) and registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF 8) by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA ID 120943).
