About this qualification

The IIE Bachelor of Commerce in Entrepreneurship degree, available at Emeris, provides graduates with general business principles and theory as preparation for entry into general employment, either as an entrepreneur or entrepreneurial thinker in corporate organisations. It will expose graduates to concepts, principles and theories of entrepreneurship within the context of a developing country such as South Africa. This Degree will develop the graduate’s capacity to analyse scenarios within the discipline of entrepreneurial studies, to make innovative decisions critical to the development, and the establishment of innovative and creative business ideas.

Admission requirements

Minimum Admission Requirements:
  • National Senior Certificate (NSC): Bachelor’s Degree pass with 50% for English, 30% for Mathematics or 50% for Mathematical Literacy/Technical Maths.
  • National Certificate (Vocational) [NC(V)]: Bachelor’s Degree pass with 50% for English, 50% for Mathematics or 60% for Mathematical Literacy/Technical Mathematics.
  • Senior Certificate (SC): Endorsement pass, with 50% for English, 30% for Mathematics or 50% for Mathematical Literacy/Technical Mathematics.
  • Senior Certificate (Amended) [SC(a)]: Bachelor pass with 50% for English, 30% for Mathematics or 50% for Mathematical Literacy/Technical Mathematics.
  • International Qualifications: An USAf Exemption Certificate is required and meeting the relevant Maths and English requirements.
  • Alternatively, a cognate Higher Certificate OR cognate 240 credit Diploma OR an Advanced Certificate OR 360 credit Diploma or Degree may satisfy the minimum admission requirements to degree studies.
  • If discipline not cognate at least 20% of credits must be academic literacy or numeracy related.

The qualification is accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE) and registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), with the relevant SAQA ID 111287 and NQF level 7. The programme meets the necessary regulatory standards for its level and type.

The BCom in Entrepreneurship will provide graduates with the skills required to create, innovate, implement and manage new products and/or services within either large corporate business or small businesses. This Degree will enable graduates to apply a well-rounded knowledge base across a broad range of industries and government departments/entities. On-Campus written examination venue information

For students based in South Africa, online students may select any campus of Emeris as their Examination Centre.

An alternative examination centre is only permissible for students studying abroad and those located in a province of South Africa where there is no Emeris campus. If there is no Emeris campus within reach, an alternative venue will need to be sourced by you. For non-Emeris venues, there is an alternative venue levy per module.

Device and connectivity specifications required for online study

  • Reliable internet connection (we recommend 5-10 GB of data per month and an internet speed of at least 0.15 Mbps).
  • Desktop PC or laptop with at least an i3 processor and 4GB RAM memory.
  • Windows 8 or macOS 10.15 (Microsoft Office 365 is available as a free download for Emeris students), and Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge Chromium or Firefox.
  • A working webcam and microphone.
  • An uninterrupted power supply is also highly recommended.
  • Exams are written at an exam centre and in some instances online. These details will be specified in your programme assessment schedule.
