About this qualification

The IIE Bachelor of Commerce in Law (B Com (Law)) degree, available at Emeris, provides candidates with a general grounding in the key disciplines of law, business management, economics, and accounting, to enable them to enter into a career in business which requires a good grounding in law, or alternatively follow a career in law, but with a sound foundation in commerce. The IIE B Com (Law) degree is a three-year degree.

Admission requirements

Minimum Admission Requirements:
  • National Senior Certificate (NSC): Bachelor’s Degree pass with 50% for English, 30% for Mathematics or 50% for Mathematical Literacy/Technical Maths.
  • National Certificate (Vocational) [NC(V)]: Bachelor’s Degree pass with 50% for English, 50% for Mathematics or 60% for Mathematical Literacy/Technical Mathematics.
  • Senior Certificate (SC): Endorsement pass, with 50% for English, 30% for Mathematics or 50% for Mathematical Literacy/Technical Mathematics.
  • Senior Certificate (Amended) [SC(a)]: Bachelor pass with 50% for English, 30% for Mathematics or 50% for Mathematical Literacy/Technical Mathematics.
  • International Qualifications: An USAf Exemption Certificate is required and meeting the relevant Maths and English requirements.
  • Alternate Admission: A cognate Higher Certificate OR cognate 240 credit Diploma OR an Advanced Certificate OR 360 credit Diploma or Degree may satisfy the minimum admission requirements to degree studies. If discipline not cognate, at least 20% of credits must be academic literacy or numeracy related.

In the Faculty of Law, graduates of the IIE Bachelor of Commerce in Law may be eligible to articulate into the IIE Bachelor of Laws.

The IIE Bachelor of Commerce in Law degree is accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE) and is registered by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) as a 376-credit qualification on level 7 (SAQA ID: 93729).
